DJ’s
Headliner: Switch
Dave
Taylor is a hip hop freak from Ladbroke Grove with an ear for beats and
causing trouble on vinyl, a man behind numerous shady records and some genius
official ones (check Solid Groove’s ‘Flookin’,
Switch’s ‘Get
Ya Dub On’ and ‘This
Is Sick’ for where house should be right about now).
Championed by the likes of Masters at Work, Gilles Peterson, Phil Asher, Rainer Truby, Tom Middleton, and Ashley Beedle, Dave’s cheeky approach to production is building him quite a reputation as a consistently fresh, risk-taking quirkster, delivering quality cuts with an element of funk and soul, which continuously impress the underground elite.
His ‘Get Ya Dub On’ and ‘Get On Downz’ releases as Switch for Freerange helped cement his reputation as a true pioneer and helped him to become one of the most in demand remixers of the year. His current remixography reads like a who’s who of the dance world taking in anyone and everyone from Busta Rhymes, Basement Jaxx, and the Chemical Brothers through to Blaze, Roy Davis Jnr and Armand Van Helden.
On top of all this he also manages to run his own Dubsided label which acts as an outlet for his more fucked up, freaky deep shit.
Dave’s appeal seems to lie in the fact that he makes accessible, twisted records in the ball-park that is dance music, throwing influences in from Squarepusher, Outkast, Prefuse 73, the Neptunes and Kenny Dope. Never one to be pigeonholed, If you care to look deeper into what he does you will find tracks that cover all bases from hip-hop to twisted afro through to the jackin’ house music he is currently finding fame with.
